What a Type 01 licence means

A Type 01 licence is the standard retail dealer licence: the business sells firearms to the public and may also act as a gunsmith. It can sell new and used firearms after a NICS background check; receive firearms you bought online and transfer them to you (Form 4473); perform gunsmithing and repairs. A Type 01 cannot sell NFA items (suppressors, short-barreled rifles) unless it also pays the Special Occupational Tax (SOT). Registered SOT: this dealer can also sell and transfer NFA items where state law allows.
